About this Website
The website of the project “Egeria – Mediterranean Medieval Places of Pilgrimage” presents a selection of important pilgrimage monuments of all historical periods from early Christian times onwards, which were documented by the project, and proposes cultural itineraries that are based on the aforementioned monuments.
The immovable and movable pilgrimage monuments presented on the site have been documented by the partners of the project. Each individual monument record contains information on its contributors (author, photographer, institution/partner of the project etc.). The information presented on the website about the pilgrimage monuments is organized in a database, which uses information from the databases employed by the “Egeria” project for the documentation of the monuments.
Τhe production of the website was undertaken by the Directorate of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Antiquities – Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
The construction of the website, including the database and the WEB – GIS, was implemented by the Laboratory of Geophysical-Satellite Remote Sensing of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies – Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas (IMS- F.O.R.T.H.).
